Investor
interest in Specialised
Investment Funds (SIFs), which have been introduced as a new
investment opportunity in India, continues to grow rapidly. In particular,
fresh investments into this category recorded a significant surge during June 2026. According to the
latest data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India
(AMFI),
net inflows into SIFs rose to Rs. 3,782 crore in June, compared with Rs. 1,396 crore in May, representing a 171% increase.
This data
indicates that investors are increasingly embracing new investment products and
alternative investment strategies.
What is a SIF?
Specialised
Investment Funds are a category of mutual funds that follow investment
approaches different from traditional equity or debt funds. These funds often
use strategies such as Long-Short, which are designed to take advantage of
opportunities when markets rise and, in certain situations, when markets
decline. As a result, SIFs are generally considered an alternative investment
option for relatively experienced investors.
Strong momentum in June
June 2026
witnessed not only a sharp rise in inflows but also a significant increase in
the category’s Average
Assets Under Management (AAUM).

The fact
that AAUM has crossed Rs. 16,000 crore suggests that the SIF category is beginning
to establish a meaningful presence in India’s investment landscape.
Hybrid strategies remain the
preferred choice
More than 71% of total SIF
inflows in June
went into hybrid strategies. Inflows into this segment increased from Rs. 744 crore in May to Rs. 2,685 crore in June.
This segment
alone accounts for nearly 72% of the total assets managed by the
SIF industry.
Hybrid long-short funds
continue to dominate
Hybrid
Long-Short Funds remained the largest strategy within the SIF universe during
June. The strategy attracted Rs. 2,043 crore in inflows during
the month, while its AAUM increased to Rs. 10,771 crore. This makes it the
largest SIF strategy in terms of assets under management.
Active asset allocator funds
emerge as the fastest-growing strategy
The biggest
surprise in June was the performance of Active Asset Allocator Long-Short Funds. Inflows into this
strategy surged from just Rs. 37 crore in May to Rs. 643 crore in June, representing an
extraordinary 1,648%
increase.
Its AAUM
also rose sharply from Rs. 246 crore to Rs. 752 crore, registering a 205% increase during the month.
Equity strategies also
witness healthy growth
Investor
participation in equity-oriented SIF strategies continued to strengthen. Total
inflows into this segment increased to Rs. 1,097 crore in June.
Equity Ex-Top 100 funds
attract significant attention
Among equity
strategies, Equity
Ex-Top 100 Long-Short Funds attracted Rs. 753 crore in inflows during
June, a 324%
increase
compared with May. The segment’s AAUM rose to Rs. 2,391 crore, making it the
largest equity-oriented SIF category by assets.
Increase in AAUM across
major SIF strategies
All major
SIF strategies recorded growth in assets under management during June.
Why are investors turning
towards SIFs?
Several
factors are driving the growing interest in SIFs. Investors are increasingly
looking for investment strategies that offer greater flexibility during periods
of market volatility. Long-Short strategies aim to capture opportunities in
both rising and falling markets, making them an alternative to traditional
equity funds.
In addition,
experienced fund managers have the flexibility to actively adjust asset allocation, enabling them to
adapt portfolios to changing market conditions.

Who is SIF suitable for?
SIFs are not
suitable for every investor. They may be more appropriate for investors who
understand market risks, have a long-term investment horizon, and already
possess experience with diversified investment portfolios. Before investing, it
is important to carefully evaluate the fund’s strategy, risk profile, expenses,
and investment horizon.
Conclusion
The June
2026 data clearly shows that Specialised Investment Funds (SIFs) are emerging as a
rapidly growing segment within the Indian investment industry. Hybrid
strategies continue to be the preferred choice among investors, while newer
offerings such as Active Asset Allocator Long-Short Funds are witnessing
exceptionally strong traction. With total AAUM now exceeding Rs. 16,000 crore, SIFs are steadily
carving out a significant role in India’s investment landscape and are likely
to become an important investment avenue over the coming years.
