Investor
Complaints Against Mutual Fund Companies Fall 35% – A Positive Sign for
Investor Service Quality..!
Sivakasi Manikandan, MD, AISMONEY
A
significant development has emerged in the mutual fund industry, indicating
that the quality of services provided to investors has improved considerably.
During the financial year 2025–26, investor complaints registered against
mutual fund companies declined by 35% compared with the previous financial
year. This reflects stronger and more efficient mechanisms for addressing
investor grievances promptly and effectively.
Why Have Complaints
Declined?
According to
data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), a total of 11,882 investor
complaints
were registered during FY 2025–26, compared with 18,264 complaints in FY 2024–25. This
means that 6,382
fewer complaints
were recorded within a single year.
This decline
is not merely a reduction in numbers. It also suggests that mutual fund
companies have strengthened their customer service systems and are resolving
investor issues more quickly and efficiently than before.

Improved Performance by
Major Mutual Fund Companies
Most leading
mutual fund companies have reported better investor service performance
compared with the previous year, resulting in a noticeable reduction in the
number of complaints registered against them.
The primary
reasons for this improvement include stronger customer service centres,
enhanced online grievance redressal systems, and better adherence to timelines
for resolving investor complaints.
Common Complaints Raised by
Mutual Fund Investors
Investors generally
submit complaints related to the following issues:
·
Investment
amounts not being recorded correctly
·
Delays
in receiving redemption proceeds
·
Errors
in account statements
·
Issues
involving distributors or financial advisors
·
Delays
in updating name, address, or bank details
·
Technical
problems in online platforms and digital services
·
Issues
related to transaction confirmations
Improvements in the
Grievance Redressal Process
Over the
past few years, mutual fund companies have taken several measures to improve
the overall investor experience. Online services have expanded significantly,
and mobile applications for managing investments have become more efficient and
user-friendly. Instant communication through email and SMS alerts has also
improved, enabling many issues to be identified and resolved at an early stage.
What Should Investors Do?
Investors
should regularly verify their investment documents, account statements, and
transaction records. If they notice any discrepancy, they should first contact
the customer service department of the respective mutual fund company. If the
issue is not resolved satisfactorily, they can file a complaint through the
grievance redressal platform provided by the Securities and Exchange Board of
India (SEBI).
Is the Decline in Complaints
a Positive Sign?
A reduction
in complaints does not necessarily mean that investors are no longer facing
problems. Rather, it indicates that many issues are being resolved much earlier
in the process and that the quality of customer service has improved. However,
mutual fund companies must continue to strengthen their service standards and
grievance handling systems.
Conclusion
Investor
confidence is the strongest foundation for the growth of the mutual fund
industry. Fast grievance resolution and high-quality customer service play a
crucial role in strengthening that confidence. The 35% decline in investor
complaints during FY 2025–26 is therefore a positive indicator that the
Indian mutual fund industry is moving steadily toward a more investor-centric
service model,
which is encouraging for both existing and prospective investors.
