COUNSELING FOR CAREERS IN MEDIA


PROGRAM

Centre for Media & Public Affairs (CMPA), the Chennai based professional body, organized a FREE  COUNSELING FOR CAREERS IN MEDIA today (Sunday, September 22,2013) at DNS Plaza, Panagal Park, TNagar, Chennai, from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. Graduates and students attended and got clarified on queries related to careers in media.

CMPA's Joint Secretary Mr K S Rajasekar (leading social media expert), CMPA's Executive President Mr N Thanigaimani (human resource management professional) and CMPA's National President Mr V Venkat Raj (mass communication professional) interacted with the participants and offered counseling. AICC Member Mr Pon Krishnamurthy inaugurated the session. CMPA's Media Secretaries Mr Sam Jebastin Robert & Mr Benni Livingston coordinated the program. SIGNIFICANCE

Media and Journalism, the field with decisive role of spreading information about every relevant happening in the world, is definitely one of the celebrated careers that one can get into. In today's era of Communication, the vital role played by the print, visual and internet media is commendable and a career in this field is definitely challenging as well. Beyond keeping the youth updated about the current affairs, the media career helps them a lot in self development and achievements in life.

To get in to the striking careers in Media and Journalism, one needs to acquire the required skill sets and knowledge base to make it. Unlike engineering or medical streams there are no preparation strategies for making a career in mass communication and journalism. A graduate degree in any field is good to start to be considered for various positions in any media organization. 'Is it the media Career right for me?' is the question that requires a critical self-evaluation. Maturity, objectivity and a sensible train of thought are essential. You need to start blogging or work as a freelance contributor to newspapers, online publishing sites and portals to develop your reporting or writing skills. You require great deal of patience, passion for hard work and thinking skills to accomplish effective writing or reporting.


In fact, any short course in mass communication and journalism simultaneously opens doors for a career in print media, television channels, publishing houses, public relations firms, editing, film-making etc. 

Career in news media requires commitment, interest and dedication of time for the sake of staying on front. In short, media as a career provides job satisfaction, name, reputation and a challenge to live with. Other than those with professional training in media, with the proliferation of social media, the graduate from general discipline can very well make the grade. You should be looking for information, trying to network, make inquiries, for roughly eight hours a day, to make yourself a perfect media professional!
