National Housing Bank Data: Housing Prices Rise By Upto 10.5% in 16 Cities


According to NHB (National Housing Bank) data, housing prices have risen by up to 10.5% in 16 major cities of our country India in the April to June (2012) period, while only 3 towns have witnessed a marginal fall.

NHB 'RESIDEX' tracks the movement in prices of residential properties on a quarterly (3 Month) basis since 2007. The NHB RESIDEX now covers 20 cities.

NHB said in a statement,  "Residential housing prices in 16 cities have shown rise in prices in this quarter ended June, 2012 over the previous quarter ended March, 2012" .


Mr. R. V. Verma, Chairman and Managing Director, NHB said, "Housing prices are largely stable & there is no cause of worry. In the long run also, the prices are moving in a range bound. The prices have increased marginally in the 16 cities, which he attributed to local factors like improvement in infrastructure."

Pune 10.5% Rise..!

The maximum increase in housing prices was observed in Pune (10.5%) followed by Bengaluru (8.7%), Patna (8.6%), Ahmedabad (6.4%) and Ludhiana (5.3%).

Housing prices rose by 4.1% in Lucknow, while houses became costlier in Mumbai by 3.7%, Delhi & Kolkatta by 2.6% each, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal & Chennai by 1.7% each, Surat & Guwahati 1.2% each, and Vijaywada & Kochi by 1.1% each.

However, housing prices declined in Jaipur by 2.6%, Indore by 2.4% and Hyderabad by 1%.
Prices in Faridabad remained stable.
