Every mutual
fund distributor must know: New SEBI disclosure norms from May 1, 2026..!
Yaseen Sahar, Financial Expert
Starting
May 1, 2026, an important shift is coming into effect for all regulated
entities and their agents, including mutual fund distributors (MFDs).
These
changes are aimed at enhancing transparency, standardization and investor trust
across the financial distribution ecosystem.
If
you are a distributor, this is not just a compliance update—it’s a branding
reset.
Important Changes:
From
2026 May 1 onwards, all regulated entities and their agents will be required to
prominently display their registered name and registration number across every
form of communication and marketing.
This
includes:
·
Social media profiles
and posts
·
Websites
·
Business cards
·
Email signatures
·
Marketing collaterals
The
intent is clear: investors should always know who they are dealing with and
under what regulatory authorization.
Standardized Nomenclature is Now Mandatory
To
bring uniformity across the industry, specific taglines must now be used depending
on the products you distribute.
Here’s
a quick guide:
1.
If You Sell Mutual Funds Only
Use:
“AMFI Registered
Mutual Fund Distributor (ARN)”
2.
If You Sell Mutual Funds and SIFs
Use:
“AMFI
Registered Mutual Fund Distributor (ARN) and SIF Distributor (SIFD)”
3.
If You Sell PMS
Use:
“APMI
Registered PMS Distributor (APRN)”
4.
If You Distribute AIFs
No
separate registration number is required.
5.
If You Sell All Products
Use:
“AMFI
Registered Mutual Fund Distributor and SIF Distributor; APMI Registered PMS
Distributor”
Why This Matters
These
changes are more than just regulatory formality—they reflect a broader shift
toward:
·
Greater
transparency: Investors can clearly identify the credentials of their
distributor
·
Standardization:
Uniform naming reduces confusion across platforms
·
Trust-building:
Clear disclosures enhance credibility and professionalism
What You Should Do Now
With
the deadline approaching, distributors should immediately:
·
Audit all
communication channels
·
Update social media
bios and handles
·
Revise visiting cards
and email signatures
·
Ensure websites
reflect correct disclosures
·
Train teams on
consistent usage
In
an increasingly digital and trust-driven financial ecosystem, how you present
yourself is as important as what you sell.
These
new norms are an opportunity not just to comply but to reinforce your
credibility and professionalism in the eyes of investors.
