About “Woman Entrepreneur of the year Award”:

Welcome to the new age of the woman entrepreneur, where successful women leaders are embracing their gender differences by creating female-inspired products and services, with companies led by moms and funded by empowering sisters. Men aren’t out of the picture, but they’re no longer defining the parameters of success.

Women enterprises contribute 3% of the industrial output and employ 8 million people, mostly in services.  The total demand of finance for these enterprises was well over 8.68 trillion Rupees and that gives us a perspective to how significant women are as a player in the business landscape of India.

The amount of funding for women-owned firms is still less than for men, the number of angel investments are growing.

A young girl, who had to drop out of school for circumstances bizarre, started a small enterprise at the age of 10.  She prospered in the next 8 years when marriage to a rich baron confined her to her home.  Fifteen years hence when a financial calamity visited them,  this woman  who could stare debt on its face, remerged and started yet another enterprise, alongside managing a household of six children and the attendant work-load in the task. She ran it successfully for twenty five more years until great times re visited them. She is 83 years young and living happily with her son. She is Mrs. K. Rajeswari, mother of Rotarian Surendra, RCM East, in whose honor and for the inspiration she gave us, this award has been instituted.
