XLRI celebrates ‘Joy of Giving Week 2012’


XLRI celebrated the festival of philanthropy ‘Jamshedpur JoyFest: Joy of Giving Week 2012’ from 2nd to 8th October, 2012 with various events.

The Unveiling ceremony of the “Jamshedpur JoyFest: Joy of Giving Week 2012” was held in XLRI on 20th September, 2012 that was attended by the representatives from industry, schools, local NGOs, civil society organizations.

Throughout the week, XLRI students committees (SIGMA, CII-Yi, DRACULA, Sportscom and others) organized different activities to celebrate the noble cause.

The philanthropic celebrations kicked off with awareness campaign ‘Jagriti’ that aimed at sensitizing rural women about the importance of female health, hygiene & sanitation. 20 female students of XLRI met about 120 adolescent girls & women from a number of SHGs (Self helf groups) belonging to the area of Musabani Tehsil, educating them about female health & hygiene issues.


Awareness Sessions..!

The students held awareness sessions for the women in slums who do not have access to modern amenities owing to their financial inadequacy. They demonstrated scientific ways in which women can better take care of their health and informed them about various government policies exclusively for women. The team also used audio visual systems to give inputs from gynecologists on related issues.

Members of XLRI's Dramatic Club- DRACULA performed Nukkad Natak or / street play on the theme of "It's all about the Joy of Giving".

XLRI students visited &  spent a day with residents of Old People's Home & Orphanage run by the Missionaries of Charity with sweets, one month of provision and gifts.

XLRI students also took part in the ‘Vastra-Samman’ &  ‘Ann Daan’ , a donation drive to collect wearable (clean & complete) clothes and dry ration like, rice, lentil, puffed rice, and biscuits that were distributed to the less-privileged through partner NGOs.
XLRI's PGP-CEM students organized an event for the differently-abled children at the School of Hope, Jamshedpur, launched a website - www.schoolofhope.co.in - for the school, donated a computer system, besides giving them a fun-time - dance, magic show, gifts, etc.

CII Yi of XLRI organized a silent auction for various goods and services contributed by the faculty, staff members and students and the proceeds of the auction will be contributed to charity. Above 200 articles were up for the silent auction. The articles ranged from an old lamp to brand new glassware, from a faculty member’s personal item to various artworks contributed by the students. The students enthusiastically bid for all the items.

The auction fetches Rs. 50,000 in 4 hours.

Celebrating the Child Day:

The XLRI students invited children from under-privileged background to the campus to spend a day, and had various fun activities for them, including trip to the zoo.

Disha:

The students adopted few Class X students from underprivileged background to provide them with financial and academic support for their board exams.

Health Camp:
10 doctors among the students organized health-camps in under-served areas.

XL Teaches Day:

The students visited local schools to provide career tips.

Over last three years, XLRI has brought together different segments of community (corporate organizations, NGOs, schools, regional community groups, youth clubs, housing colony residents, etc.) and engaged them to take part in different acts of giving and helping. We pledge to continue this mission of working for greater good of the society in many years to come” said Prof.Madhukar Shukla on the occasion.
