National Housing Bank: Launches Toolkit to Assess Real Estate Property projects energy efficiency


NHB (National Housing Bank) in association with TERI has launched an IT toolkit to predict the energy performance of real estate projects in India, a move aimed at promoting green building.

Mr. R.V. Verma, Chairman & Managing Director, NHB said, "IT Toolkit: Resbuild India under is focused on bringing energy efficiency in the untapped huge residential real estate sector. The need of the hour is to encourage various stakeholders to use this tool. Sustained sensitisation is needed for generating passion among customers that can play a pivotal role in popularising this tool"

Mr.  R.V. Verma also said, "Under the promotional programme for energy efficient new residential housing. Banks and HFCs (housing finance companies) are eligible to receive NHB - Refinance for home -owner loans to fund the purchase of certified energy efficient apartments (flats)."

The real estate project has to achieve 30% or more energy savings so that refinance can be availed by financial institutions.

KfW of Germany is providing a credit line of 5 crore Euro to NHB for re-financing home loans for certified energy efficient housing units.

Besides, KfW is also providing technical assistance of 15 lakh Euro for energy efficiency certification & labeling, marketing & training of key stakeholders such as housing developers, energy auditors, and housing finance institutions.
